The Community Development Director oversees the Chamber of Commerce, Travel & Tourism, Main Street, and provides administrative support for the Goshen County Lodging Tax Board and Community Pride Foundation Board. A passion for Goshen County events, communications, and promotion is highly preferred. Successful candidates will possess excellent computer, writing, and organizational skills. This position will work a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week, non-exempt.

Community Development Director

Chamber of Commerce  | Travel & Tourism |  Main Street Program

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Relations
  • Create awareness of the benefits and opportunities of GED and Chamber to the community, organizations, businesses, and citizens.

  • Responsible for the management of community and tourism events in Goshen County.

  • Responsible for all Community Development and Tourism relations.

  • Participates on community boards and committees [including outside of regular business hours].

 

Downtown and Retail Development
  • Supports downtown revitalization efforts.

  • Attends meetings to promote the services of Goshen Economic Development Corporation and Chamber.

  • Responsible for community projects.

  • Responsible for Main Street Program and projects.

  • Responsible for Downtown Development programs.

 

Board Support
  • Responsible for the Main Street Committee [i.e., schedule, preparation, distribution of meeting packets, and recording of meeting minutes].

 

Tourism Development & Lodging Tax Board
  • Works in partnership with Lodging Tax Board to develop and promote tourism assets.

  • Responsible for LTB [i.e., schedule, preparation, and distribution of meeting packets, recording of meeting minutes, finances, and completion of the contract].

  • Manages contracts with marketing vendors and consultants.

  • Assists with community projects as requested.

 

Marketing and Administrative Support
  • Development of advertising, promotions, presentations for Chamber.

  • Implements marketing campaigns social media strategies, including website management for Chamber and tourism activities.

  • Assists existing businesses with evaluating and improving marketing strategies.

  • Promotion of current businesses in Goshen County.

  • Develops correspondence, including letters, documents, and proposals for clients and prospects.

  • Preparation of grant writing, administration, and reporting.

  • Researches and maintains demographic and statistical data for publications produced by GCEDC.

  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • Two years experience in economic development or related field

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Work Demands:
  • Business attire required

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods

  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach daily

  • Able to perform general office activities: copying, filing, delivering, and using the telephone

  • Able to lift 25 pounds occasionally

 

Mental Work Demands:
  • Regular and on-time attendance

  • Flexibility to accommodate the varying schedule, typically 40 hours per week, with some early morning or evening meetings

  • Ability to adjust to the fast-paced work environment and be responsive to the needs of clients and co-workers

  • Work with others

  • Verbal contact with others

  • Occasional travel by conventional means including motor vehicles and the like within the county and to other locations in the state/region as required

SALARY
  • Negotiable upon experience level
